Sean Payton will coach this season as assistant on son's team

Sean Payton's next coaching gig will allow him to hone his offensive instincts as he sits out the 2012 NFL season serving his Bountygate suspension.

According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Payton will be on the sidelines for his son's sixth-grade team in the Dallas area.

"I don't want to do anything that interrupts what I do as a coach," Payton told the Times-Picayune. "I'm an assistant coach working with the offense."

The Saints' coach is barred from any contact with the team, but said he was pleased Drew Brees' contract situation is settled.

"I think his stability, his leadership and all the things he brings to our team -- certainly this season, but really in any season - are extremely valuable," Payton told the newspaper.
