Thirty Tourism Projects Vying for 2012 TIIP Grant Funds ? Official ...

Thirty non-profit tourism facility sponsors in 22 Montana communities requested $2.2 million in grant funding from the 2012 Tourism Infrastructure Investment Program (TIIP). The Program?s 2012 grant pool is $550,000, about 25% of the funding requests.

Montana?s museums are sponsoring seven of this year?s TIIP applications with arts centers and heritage centers and properties presenting four proposals each. The TIIP project type and number of submissions include:

• 7 Museum Exhibit and Facility Improvements
• 4 Art Center Facility Improvements
• 4 Heritage Property Projects
• 3 Performing Art Center Equipment & Facility Improvements
• 3 City Park Facility & Interpretative Display Projects
• 2 Fair & Rodeo Grandstand Upgrades
• 2 Sports & Outdoor Recreation Facility Proposals
• 1 Public Art Project
• 1 Wildlife Center Exhibit
• 1 Cultural Tourism Project
• 1 Outdoor Education Facility Project
• 1 Community Landscaping Proposal

The total value of the proposed projects ? including the TIIP funds requested, their required hard match (2/1) and other project funds ? is $10 million.

2011 TIIP Grant Recipient - Orphan Girl Headframe in Butte

A scoring committee is currently reading and scoring the applications. They?ll make funding recommendations to the Montana Tourism Advisory Council and Montana Department of Commerce Director Dore Schwinden in early October. Grant awards should be announced by mid to late October.

The TIIP Grants invest a portion of the Montana Office of Tourism?s accommodation tax funds into new tourism-related infrastructure products, the enhancement of existing tourism facilities, and the preservation of Montana?s historical and cultural treasures.

Since its creation in 1995, TIIP has invested over $4.2 million in ?bed tax? funds into 94 projects in 47 communities across Montana. This investment has helped create over $45.9 million in new or improved tourism facilities in the state.
